PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE

Preventative, regular dental cleanings are one of the most important options in maintain good oral health and the prevention of gum disease. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a chronic disorder that affects your overall health. Gum disease has several stages, beginning with gingivitis, inflamed and painful gums. It is important to receive professional dental cleanings and exams to catch periodontal disease in its earliest form to prevent the further loss of tissue and possibly teeth. If left unchecked, gum disease may lead to gum and bone loss which ultimately could result in the loss of a tooth or all teeth.

SCALING & ROOT PLANING

For most people, a general cleaning will serve just fine. However, if periodontal disease has set in, more advanced cleaning is necessary. In this case scaling and root planing can be required to clean the tartar and plaque below the gum tissue and around the surfaces of the teeth. This allows the gums to reattach themselves to the newly cleaned teeth and can help gain some control over gum disease.
