PREVENTATIVE CARE

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

The American Dental Association recommends that you have your teeth checked and cleaned every 6 months.

Every new patient will begin with a routine checkup, possibly including x-rays, and a comprehensive exam to assess the current condition of their oral health. We recommend yearly evaluations of all oral structures including teeth, soft tissues, gums, bone, tongue and lips. We also provide oral cancer screenings as a part of our routine examinations. We provide x-rays based on individual risk factors and have state of the art x-ray machines that provide the lowest reasonably achievable exposure.

Regular dental cleanings focus on preventive dental care and the maintenance of healthy teeth and oral tissues by the removal of calculus, plaque, and common stains. They also allow for identifying areas of concern when conservative intervention is possible. For example, some areas of demineralization (early cavities) can be reversed if caught in the early stages. It is no secret that the foundation for excellent dental health is proper home care. Our staff educates patients on oral hygiene techniques that go beyond brushing and flossing. We pride ourselves on offering the most current, scientifically supported, oral health recommendations to our patients that enables them to have greater control over their oral health outcomes.

We believe that when patients require fewer restorations and treatments, we have done our job well.
